| Ok, so some of you have been waiting for this post....so I guess I'd better do it now. I just got back from 4 fabulous days in Portland area, visiting family and friends. refreshing...but i'm still not ready for work tomorrow. oh well, only 9 more days of work until I leave for indonesia! yippee!
i think you've probably all heard by now that I got engaged, because the mission community is amazing about spreading news rapidly....that can be a good thing or a bad thing. So, this post really isn't to inform you of the event, but rather the details that mostly just the girls have been waiting for...
So, a week ago Friday Kars had a big test at school---a 10 hour oral and practical exam for one of his airplane mechanics licenses. So, this has been the big deal for the past month---he's been studying like crazy, trying not to worry, and studying some more. Well, he is a very unique man and he decided to use this stress to his advantage (in keeping the proposal a secret). So, a week before his exam, he asks if I would mind going on a hike with him to Riverside State Park on Saturday, after his exam. Of course, I'm assuming he wants to do this to celebrate finishing (and passing) his exam. This park is about a 15 minute drive from my house and we've gone there a couple times to go hiking. It's probably the most beautiful place I've been in Spokane and we both love it. There is a decent sized river that flows through the park, and you have to cross a bridge in order to get to the trails. So, we get to the park on Saturday afternoon with about 40 minutes of daylight left. We cross the bridge, hike on one of the trails for a short 15 minutes, then turn around to head back. Although it seemed kind of silly to be hiking for such a short time, I was thankful as it was quite cold and my legs were freezing. So we hike back to the bridge and start to cross back over. In the middle of the bridge, Kars stops and starts to look at the water, making comments about how fast it was flowing. I thought this was a bit odd, as I had made the same comment on our first trip across the bridge. But I'm cold...kind of impatient...so I'm saying, "ok, I'm ready to go" and walking away from him. obviously...completely oblivious to what's going on. So, Kars is racking his brain for ways to stall me....he starts to climb up on the side of the bridge and I see him reach his hand into his pocket. At this point, I'm thinking, "if he has in his hand what I think he has in his hand, he's CRAZY! what if he drops it into the river?" So, I go back over to him and ask, "what are you doing?!?" At this point he climbs back down, pulls me into a hug and says, "i've got a confession to make". Immediately I respond, "you've been lying to me?!?"....and he says, "yes....a lot". So then i know what's happening next......and the rest you'll just have to hear from my own mouth if you really want to know. I did say yes....and I do have a ring on my finger that is absolutely gorgeous. he couldn't have done a better job picking it. this is the bridge where we got engaged...hopefully we'll get our engagement pictures here too, and post those later.

| i'm humbled. i see that some people check my xanga regularly, even though i don't post things often....guess it makes me feel loved, even though that's not necessarily what that indicates!
guess some of you might like an update on my life....things are going pretty well. I'm still working at the daycare. It's been a good job for me right now, challenging, but still fun at times. I love my kids so much, even with all their "terrible two"ness. And my kids love me, which makes me feel like I'm really making a difference in people's lives (the ones that can talk call me "issa"....one of them woke up from his nap one day when I was gone on my lunch break and the first thing he said was, "where's issa?!?" ). these kids mostly come from single-parent homes....or no parent homes.....and then they spend most of their day at a daycare, so I really want them to feel that they are loved and that their little lives have great value. the challenge comes when there are 11 little kids in one room, all needing love, attention, and discipline. But God is much bigger than me and He's been helping me. Also, God's been awesome in creating opportunities to talk to my co-workers about Him. So far, I've had some great conversations with 3 of the other teachers....and one of them will hopefully be going to church with me tomorrow. I'm excited to be in a place where there is little Light and where God can use me to do His work. And trust me, I'm learning it is ALL His work and not mine at all. He is an amazing God.
I'm excited for thanksgiving next week, as I'll only have to work 3 days. Kars and I are headed to portland to spend some time with my Uncle and Aunt, as well as some good friends of his from the mission field. And after thanksgiving, there are only 2 more weeks until the big trip!! Kars and I are going to indonesia for christmas and it's going to be awesome!! It'll be my first time to go anywhere in Asia and I'm so excited. We'll be there 3 weeks---3 weeks of GREAT warm christmas weather, swimming in the indian ocean (again!), visiting with Kars' family, seeing his house, school, town, inland village (hopefully), the waterfall, the lake....etc, etc. I can't wait.
